The 19th annual Carlisle Family YMCA Turkey Trot is going virtual. Instead of a one-day road race through the streets of Carlisle, the event will now take place virtually over a nine-day period, from Nov. 22 to Nov. 30. Participants can join from anyplace in the world (one race registrant calls California home). Racers will log their results onto the event website.

“The Turkey Trot brings people together, and we’ll do so this year by using social media,” says race director Jay Cattron, the health and wellness/membership director for the Carlisle Family YMCA. “We’re asking participants to use the hashtag #carlisleturkeytrot on all photos and videos they post on their personal social media channels.”

People can register as individuals, as a team representing family and friends, or as a team representing a business or organization. The top team in each category will win the Tuckey Team Award—a three-foot-tall golden fork manufactured by The Tuckey Companies. Other race prizes include awards for the most creative water stop station, best costume, more creative racecourse and best “watchie” (a selfie with your watch).

The earlier people enter, the more chance they will have to win prizes in random drawings this month.

Penn State Health is the race’s presenting sponsor. Race proceeds benefit the Carlisle Family YMCA, which provides swim lessons, sports, summer camps and child care for area youth. The YMCA accepts all children in its programs, regardless of a family’s ability to pay.
