THON®, Penn State’s student-run philanthropy that supports children and families fighting childhood cancer, raised $13.7 million this past year. The total was announced over the weekend at the 46-hour dance marathon in the Bryce Jordan Center at State College.

More than 16,500 students participated in this year’s event, which marked its 50th anniversary.
Since 1977, THON has raised more than $200 million to benefit Four Diamonds at Penn State Health Children’s Hospital. The funds are used to ensure that pediatric cancer patients undergoing care at the Children’s Hospital receive the most advanced treatment, and at no cost to their families. THON also fuels groundbreaking research and innovative programs.
“Thank you to all who play a role in the success of THON activities ― from the students who work so hard all year to plan and execute THON, to the kids and families who share their inspiring stories, to our colleagues in the Four Diamonds development office who coach our outstanding THON students and connect them to our families, and to our own Penn State Health and College of Medicine family who every day deliver the Four Diamonds mission to our young patients who are fighting cancer,” said Penn State Health CEO Steve Massini.
