Dr. Alyssa Anderson, physician in the Department of Family and Community Medicine, is featured for May in the “Exceptional Moments in Teaching” program.

“Dr. Anderson is such a role model clinician and an excellent educator,” a current student wrote. “She explains what she is doing in a systematic, clear way and at a good pace to ensure our understanding. We never feel like she is rushing us and she answers all of our questions.
“She provides constructive feedback and helps us track our progress. She’s also very organized and makes sure we know our schedules far in advance. I’m grateful to have learned my clinical skills from Dr. Anderson.”
A graduate of Penn State College of Medicine, Anderson completed her family medicine residency at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health. She treats patients of all ages at Penn State Health Medical Group – Elizabethtown, where she also works with students at many different levels. Anderson is an assistant professor, mentor and academic advisor for medical students at Penn State College of Medicine and serves as the Family and Community Medicine clerkship co-director. In 2020, she received the Penn State College of Medicine Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching and was Affiliate Site Teacher of the Year. Anderson has also been recognized by Penn State College of Medicine as an Exceptional Teacher for consecutive years. She has a strong interest in women’s health and preventive medicine.
Penn State College of Medicine’s Office for a Respectful Learning Environment recognizes exceptional faculty, residents and fellows with the monthly “Exceptional Moments in Teaching” program. One faculty member and one resident/fellow are highlighted each month for their contributions. College of Medicine students are invited to submit narratives about faculty members, residents, nurses or any other educators who challenge them and provide an exceptional learning experience using the online nomination form.
